When deploying the cutting-edge UniFi U7 Pro, your upstream core infrastructure becomes an immediate variable. The U7 Pro operates on the Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) standard, pushing a theoretical air throughput of over 9 Gbps across its tri-band array. To prevent the physical RJ45 ethernet termination from choking this throughput, Ubiquiti drops the standard 1G interface found on the U6+ and U6 Pro in favor of a native 2.5 GbE Multi-Gigabit uplink port.

If you hook the U7 Pro up to a traditional, non-multi-gig PoE switch, the physical copper line creates an absolute data ceiling at roughly 940 Mbps, rendering the extra air bandwidth useless for local high-speed NAS transfers and active high-density homelab servers computing clusters that rely on unconstrained link speeds to sync arrays.

Power Budgeting: PoE vs. PoE+ Requirements
